If it makes you happy, wear it!

Hope you enjoyed your Valentine’s Day, whether single or in a relationship! I actually love Valentine’s Day. A lot of people think I love the holiday because I’ve been in a relationship for a few years now, but I’ve actually loved it since I was younger.

As a young girl I watched wedding shows sometimes more than cartoons…I know, weird right. I was the student who wanted to give Valentine’s candy and cards to all of my classmates growing up. I just always loved the idea of love.

I know some people believe that Valentine’s Day is just a superficial and commercialized holiday, but I see it as a special day to go all out for your signifcant other in a different way than the other 364 days of the year.

And if you are single, practicing self-love and taking yourself on a date that makes you feel beautiful, confident, and happy is also a perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day.

Yesterday, Shawn and I actually had a very lowkey Valentine’s Day. It was a rainy LA day so we decided to stay in and catch up on all of our tv shows, which was fun and relaxing.

I only left my apartment to take the pictures you see in this post and then went back to the comfort of my bed, blankets, and snacks.

A few days ago I was trying so hard to figure out what to wear on Valentine’s Day just in case we went out somewhere. I was thinking about buying a pink skirt or a cute red dress to wear, but I honestly wasn’t feeling pink or red this year for the holiday.

I felt like every year I aimed for something pink, red, or white in my outfit to match the usual theme of the holiday, so I switched it up this time for a less bright and less girly look and I loved it.

Don’t get so tied up on themes or what other people are wearing, wear what makes you happy. For my non-traditional Valentine’s Day outfit, I decided to wear navy and black!

20190214_121448

I wore a navy blazer from H&M and paired it with a black Topshop bralette, black FashionNova jeans, and black dress shoes from Nordstrom Rack. I felt like this outfit was sexy enough for the lovey dovey holiday while still being simple and stylish.

As I mentioned earlier, it was a rainy day, so I was excited to add my umbrella to my outfit. My umbrella has pink and white polka dots on it, which added a nice pop of color to my Valentine’s Day look.

If dresses make you happy, wear them. If crop tops make you happy, wear them. If you don’t feel comfortable in shorts and they make you unhappy, don’t wear them.

Anybody can wear anything that makes them feel confident and happy. All bodies are good bodies!

Have a lovely weekend!! 🙂

Rocking a Topshop Hoodie Dress and Vans for a Casual Slay

Hey hey! I hope your week has been fun and productive so far. It’s been a chilly and rainy few days here in LA, so after work I’ve been staying warm and cozy inside my apartment, doing yoga, catching up on a few of my favorite podcasts, and reading.

20190111_152041

When it gets chilly in LA is definitely nothing compared to chilly in Baltimore, but i still try to dress appropriate for the weather. LA chilly is around 50ish degrees and requires a light jacket or sweater.

Some of the LA natives would call 50ish degrees cold but thats because they never felt 20 degree Baltimore or east coast weather lol.

I love dresses more than any article of clothing. Anytime i get to wear one I will. I recently found a great deal on this topshop hoodie dress.

20190111_151752

Right when i saw it I knew I had to have it in my closet. It comes in a dusty rose pink color and the bright red color I purchased. I purchased it in red because I actually don’t own a lot of red and I loved how bright it was. I love having a colorful wardrobe!

Now some might say that this dress is outside my normal dress attire and they would be correct. My dresses are normally fit and flare, bodycon, or maxi dresses. Having it be so different from what I already own is one of the main reasons I wanted to buy it.

20190111_151752

I paired this dress with gray and white checkerboard Vans that have red roses on them. The red in the shoes popped along with the red dress. I wanted this look to be casual, but still stylish as well. Buying a dress that is super comfortable and cute is a great find! Throw on some boots or heels with this dress and you have a cute brunch outfit or party outfit.

Aside from loving dresses, I also love fun walls! That’s why I was so excited when I found this wall near my job. The wall is green plants in a wooden pot fixture in the shape of arrows. I didn’t realize how cool the wall looked with my outfit until I saw the pics.

Visit my Instagram page @coralbuttons to see more pictures and to get some style inspo. Let me know in the comments below if you would rock a hoodie dress and if you would wear it more casual, dressed up, or both. Have a lovely rest of your week!

Spring is here! 🌻

Happy second day of spring everyone!

Spring is my favorite season because everything is starting to blossom and grow after a long winter. We get to see flowers and trees full of life and birds and bugs enjoying nature.

Continuing with my color for 2018, I wore a ruched, olive dress that I purchased from Nordstrom and paired it with black heeled sandals I got from Nordstrom Rack.

The dress is currently on sale for only $23.40 and comes in burgundy, black, gray, pink, and olive like I’m wearing. You can shop for it here!

I love this dress because it is very figure flattering and lightweight, perfect for cool, spring days.

Back home on the east coast my friends and family are experiencing a snowy spring day. In LA, we are getting ready for spring showers.

As you already know, I love the rain, but a lot of people see rainy days as gloomy days. Since LA and California overall is pretty dry, it will be nice to get some rain showers, especially since rain is essential for the beautiful spring flowers to bloom!

Recently, I’ve been loving the ruched dress and ruched top trend. It’s a slimming silhouette that flatters every body shape.

How do you feel about the wrap trend? How do you like to wear it? Shirts, bikini tops, dresses?

Let me know in the comments below. Also, I hope Motivational March is still going well for everyone!

For day 2 of spring and day 21 of Motivational March here’s an encouraging quote from an amazing role model, Michelle Obama: “We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own ‘to do’ list.” Remember to take time today to show yourself some TLC. #selfcare #selflove

Enjoy the rest of your week lovelies!

3 Month LA Update!

I’ve been living in Los Angeles for 3 months already! At times it is still surreal to think that my boyfriend and I packed up and moved across the country but it’s so real.

We celebrated our first Christmas and New Year’s Eve in LA and the first one away from our familys. It was a bittersweet moment.

I was excited to be celebrating in our new home and excited to be living in LA, but of course I missed my family. I called them all and talked to them about my plans for the holiday and got a little emotional but ensured them that I am still loving the decision to move here.

Thinking about the journey to LA

Both New Year’s Eve and Christmas were very low-key and relaxing days. We made a nice dinner and enjoyed tv and movies and just spending the holiday together. Also, as you may have noticed from one of my past posts, I experienced my first few rainy days in LA.

As I mentioned in the “Rainy Day” post previously, I am a pluviophile so I love and find peace and joy when it rains. If you know anything about LA or California, you know that we don’t get a lot of rain here so I was happy to see some rainfall especially since the air and plants get really dry here.

We also explored a new area, Griffith Park where we went up into the hills and visited an observatory, saw the hollywood sign in the distance, and saw an amazing sunset. More details of that adventure can be found here.

Snapshot of the Griffith Observatory

The weather here is great, it doesn’t feel like winter at all which is weird but nice. Overall, we are healthy, happy, and making the most out of our time here.

The goal is to explore much more of the city in the upcoming months and make more memories that will last forever.

Any questions about my journey to LA, why I moved here, or any topic you can think of? Ask away in the comments below and enjoy your week!

For The Rainy Days

I love rainy days! To me, rainy days are very soothing.rain

They make me want to snuggle under a blanket, drink hot chocolate (with marshmallows!), and listen to the lovely sound of the rain falling.

Unfortunately, I can’t relax and be cozy under a blanket on all of the rainy days. Sometimes I have to venture out into the rain and go to class, work, or run errands.

When you embark on your rainy day journey, you have to dress for the weather. Your goal is to stay warm and as dry as possible.

I believe that you can look fabulous while still staying dry from the rain!

In my rarainy dayiny day outfit, I have on a polka dot, overall skirt, a white blouse, a white cardigan with black trims, and brown rain boots.

I bought my overall skirt and white blouse when I traveled to Korea. The overall skirt is pleated and loose-fitting, which makes it a comfortable piece.

Overall skirts aren’t seen often in the fashion industry, but I think that they should be seen more. They are adorable and super chic pieces!

My blouse is also loose-fitting and it can be dressed up or down. It can be worn with jeans for a casual day or it could be worn with a pencil skirt for a fancy date or interview.

My cardigan has a V-neckline and is rather warm. When I wore this outfit it was about 70 degrees, but the rain made the weather a little chilly. rainfall

This cardigan is perfect for days like that because it is warm enough to keep me dry from the rain and still light enough to be worn in 70 degree weather.

My favorite article of clothing for rainy days are my rain boots! They keep my feet and lower leg dry and they are super comfy.

My rain boots are in various shades of brown and has an animal print pattern on them. They usually match with anything I wear and they make walking in the rain fun.

Rainy days might make you feel blah, but don’t let the rain dampen your mood. Stay positive, stay stylish, and don’t forget your umbrella!
