New Look Alert: Bantu Knots

Happy first Day of March everyone! Hope 2017 is treating you well so far. As I have previously dubbed 2017, the year of change, I decided to try out new looks for the new year.

Recently, I decided to rock Bantu Knots. Check out my look below and a brief history lesson about them!

History: “Bantu” is a blanket term used to describe the 300 to 600 ethnic groups within southern Africa. There’s no standard language, but interestingly enough, “Bantu,” which means “people,” remains consistent across the different groups.

“Bantu knots also are known as Zulu knots because the Zulu people, a Bantu ethnic group, are the originators of the look we love and wear today,” says NaturallyCurly Branded Content Editor Gerilyn Hayes. – ebony.com

Why I love the look: Bantu knots make me feel empowered and in touch with my African American history. Learning about the tradition, culture, and meaning behind the style was eye opening!

Turtlenecks & Headwraps

Some days you just want to be cozy and casual, and there is nothing wrong with that! My casual looks are still pretty stylish in my opinion, so today I am showcasing a simple, chic look. I paired a red patterned head wrap with an oversized turtleneck sweater.

New Growth Post

It’s a warm winter day in Baltimore today! I hope everyone is enjoying the weather where they are or at least staying as warm as possible!

Today’s post focuses on natural hair ❤ I have been natural for almost 2 years now and it is one of the best decisions I made for my hair!

It is healthier, thicker, and longer than ever before. Below you will see shots of my 4c fro ❤

Playful Puffballs

I went to the hairdresser recently to get my ends trimmed and to make sure my hair was healthy overall…which it is! Yay! ^-^

I was looking for something fun and different to do with my hair and I really looovveeeddd the idea of puffballs and luckily my hairdresser made that happen for me.

My new look for a bit is 2 mini puffs with a part straight down the middle and then have the rest of my hair out and curly in the back.

It’s a super easy style to maintain and I think it is super adorable. My ultimate goal is to have 2 huge puffballs, but for now I am rocking my mini puffs.

The picture included in this post to the bottom right is of IMG_20160803_185740Shawn and I after our hairdresser date. Fresh from the hairdresser, with our ends trimmed and feeling beautiful 🙂

The other photo pictured top left is from a photo shoot I did recently for my fashion show that will take place Saturday, as mentioned before in my previous post.

In that picture I am also rocking a little bit of pink blush and purple lipstick, which is a new look for me.

So far I am loving my cute mini puffballs and look forward to more growth!!! ❤

Puff Post

puff 2Hello lovelies! This is going to be a rather short post because I just wanted to show all of my wonderful followers and readers a new hairstyle I tried!

My hair is getting longer and has been growing rapidly ever since I cut it a little over a year ago so, of course, I have to start trying out new ways to wear my hair. puff

My new hairstyle is called a high puff or just a puff. My hair is very thick and tightly curled so when I put a elastic headband around my hair, the hair outside of the headband puffs up into an afro-like style.

I really love this hairstyle because it is quick and easy to do and it looks super cute! By adding a chic headband, like the gold one I am wearing in the photos, it adds a bit more style and flair to the hairstyle.

As my hair continues to grow, I am excited to see how big my puff can get! ^-^

My Natural Hair Journey

It’s been a little over a year since I cut all of my hair off and went natural. I am excited about how far I have come and even more excited about the future of my hair. This will be a short post because all I wanted to share my progress with my lovely readers ❤

natural hair journeyBox 1: This a picture of me from the day of my Big Chop. My hair was supeerrrr short and I was a little worried about how I looked for a while. I eventually grew into it and fell in love with my short look. It was easy to manage and I knew that it would be growing shortly. This was taken in March of 2014.

Box 2: This picture is from my Bear with Honey post and features me sporting one of my favorite natural hairstyles, twist-outs! My hair has grown soooo much in just a year and I am really proud of my growth 🙂 Can’t wait for it to grow longer!

Box 3: This is a very recent picture and this is a picture of me with my hair straightened! I haven’t had my hair straight in over a year. I am happy to see how long it is because I am so use to seeing it up in the air rather than laid down (lol). I am enjoying my straight hair, but I am starting to miss my puffy and curly hair, so it will probably be back to my fro in a couple of days ^-^

Box 4: This is just a really cool picture and shows a character with gorgeous natural hair. I think that this photo inspires strength and confidence for all women in general and of course, women with natural hair.

I hope everyone enjoyed my hair update post and I hope you all have great Thursdays ❤ It’s almost Friday!!!
