Hair Spotlight: Lemonade Braids

Happy Hump Day lovelies!!!

Today, I am showcasing a new protective style perfect for when your natural hair needs a break!

Side braids, also know as lemonade braids (thanks to Queen Bey), are a simple, but fierce style. Lemonade braids add a touch of sophistication and edge to any look.

sidelook

Depending on whichever side is your “good side” or how you are use to wearing your hair, let that determine which side is slicked back and which side the braids will fall on. I am right handed and consider my right side my “good side,” so that’s the way I wanted my braids to fall.

Upkeep for the braids are simple; wrap them up in a scarf or bonnet at night and unwrap in the morning. Piece of cake!..Which I kind of want a piece of now after mentioning it 🙂

I unfortunately felt stuck with my natural hair so to get out of my hair funk, I tried this look and loved it!

basic look

It is okay to not be in love with your hair every moment, just make sure you take care of it and it will flourish. Sometimes all you need is a new look to make you appreciate the hair God blessed you with.

Having natural hair requires a lot of trial and error. Some products may work for your mom and best friend, but does absolutely nothing for your hair and that’s okay because you will find something that definitely works for you.

My “hair funks” or feeling stuck and powerless because I am not sure what to do with my hair usually goes away pretty quickly. I’ve been natural for going on 4 years and it is still a learning process.

But do I regret going natural or want to go back to the creamy crack, never!! Being natural is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. So love your short fro, long curly hair, kinky bush, or long lemonade braids. Embrace it baby ❤

P.S. This is my favorite picture out of the group…super dramatic super edgy

fierce

Talk to you all again soon!!!

Love,

Tati

90’s Baby Style

Hope July is treating everyone well so far!

July has been full of excitement so far for me. I recently just got back from a wonderful resort in Virgina called Massanutten.20170705_174657

There I went go-karting, played mini golf, spent the 4th of July at a waterpark, and even ziplined for the first time!

This post is about one of the outfits I wore on the trip. I called this look 90’s baby style, hence the title!

20170705_174707

I wore a low cut back bodysuit with characters from one of my favorite series growing up, Rugrats! I paired the bodysuit with blue shorts which came with an adorable brown woven  belt.

To finish the look off, I wore a pair of black lace Toms.

As a 90’s kid, we are all at the time in our lives where we are getting established in our careers, building and maintaining relationships, and striving to achieve our biggest dreams and goals.

20170705_174710

I’m going to achieve a big goal this year that has been in the works for over a year. This goal will be revealed to you in a post within the next few months 🙂

To achieve that goal I can’t just sit and hope for the best, having faith that things will work out is great, but you must also put action behind your faith.

Remember that your dreams and goals are achievable. I believe in you and never stop believing in yourself.

Have a great week! ❤

#SummerStyle

It’s Summertime!

Happy 3rd day of Summer everyone. I am sure that already you’ve overheard the phrase, “is it hot enough for ya?”

20170621_102211

It’s been in the high 80s and up in Baltimore these past few days so of course it was time to break out the sunglasses and breezy summer dresses.

To bring in summer the right way I chose a floral bodycon dress, my neutral shades, and lace Toms. The dress is comfortable and very flattering similar shape to dress I wore in my last post.

And Toms are great shoes especially for heavy walking or standing during the day. And the money used to purchase them gives a child in need a pair of shoes as well.

Remember to stay hydrated in this extreme heat, wear the proper sun protection, and stay as cool as possible with airy, comfy clothes.

Enjoy your weekend!

Francesca’s Fun Floral Display – Embrace the Creativity Around You

Happy May everyone!

I hope that you are having a great week so far. For an assignment for my Parsons x Teen Vogue fashion class, I had to take a shot of  window display at a retail store that I thought was pretty interesting.

I went to my local mall, also the mall I currently work at and looked around at numerous displays. The one shown below at Francesca’s caught my eye because it epitomizes spring.

Francescas for portfolio.jpg

. The store had beautiful potted plants along the base of the mannequins possibly representing flowers blossoming in the springtime. The colors were varying shades of pinks, blues, and whites.

My favorite outfit displayed was the pink choker top with the blue shorts. In the background you can also see that throughout some of the store the visual merchandising team kept up with the floral and pastel colors and potted plants theme displayed in the window.

I think that this is a great example of a creative and informative window display. Every once in a while I think that you should go to a place you never been or a place you don’t frequent often and just take in your surroundings.

A lot of creative statues, buildings, parks, and people are right in your hometown or neighborhood. Try to meet some of those creative people and visit some of those beautiful places, because you will never know what will inspire you.

Enjoy the rest of your week lovelies, you will be hearing from me again soon! ❤

Parsons x Teen Vogue Assignment: Bracelet DIY!

For almost a full year now I have been taking an online fashion course ran by Parsons- The New School for Design and Teen Vogue! One of my assignments was to design a possible product and calculate the cost to make it, profit, and the retail value for it.

My design:  Updated bracelet

I decided to take my old pearl bracelet and give it a modern twist. I wrapped ribbon around the bracelet in a slightly overlapping pattern and then sealed the ribbon around the bracelet using glue. I didn’t realize that my product was slightly expensive to make!

Original Ribbon Bracelet Idea

One roll of ribbon $3.00
Bracelet $5.00
Superglue $4.25
.5 @ $10 $5.00
Total Production Cost $17.25
20% profit $3.45
Total Cost Plus Profit $20.70
Estimated Retail Price $24.00

Improved Ribbon Bracelet Idea

One roll of ribbon (from Amazon) $1.50
Bracelet (cheaper material such as plastic band) $2.50
Krazy Glue $3.00
.33 @ $10 $3.30
Total Production Cost $10.30
20% profit $2.06
Total Cost Plus Profit $12.36
Estimated Retail Price $24.00

I never was a big fan of math in school, but learning how to calculate product costs and my profit was interesting and fun. Now, I can say I know how to calculate those details if I decide to start my own business or assist friends and family members with their ideas. I also liked trying to figure out how to cut costs in order to save money, but still profit! Using a different type of glue and using a different product underneath the ribbon cut the cost dramatically.

Try it out with your own DIY products! Tell me in the comments all about your item, the cost, and any additional info you would like to share 🙂

Highlights from Hawaii

From the title you can clearly see that my boyfriend and I went to Hawaii on our vacation!
The specific island we went to was Kauai, also known as The Garden Isle because it is know for all of its beautiful natural sights such as waterfalls, canyons, mountains, and more.
Kauai, Hawaii is so beautiful! Below you will see a timeline of all of the exciting activities we did. Enjoy!

Friday:

Our first day of actual activities was very exciting. We booked a tour with Rainbow Tours to see Secret Falls. To get to the waterfall we had to kayak on the Wailua River and hike through a rainforest. Secret falls is 125 feet tall and beautiful. The journey was definitely as exciting as it sounds!

Saturday:

We were tired from the kayaking and hiking the night before but we still wanted to get out of the hotel and do something fun. We went to Coconut Marketplace to explore the unique shops.

We also decided to go get a couples massage at a quaint shop called Spa by the Sea which were amazing!

Sunday:

We went snorkeling at Poipu Beach! This was super scary at first because, unlike my boyfriend who is an excellent swimmer, I cannot swim at all. Luckily, our tour guide from Zodiac/Z-Tours gave me a life vest so I could snorkel properly. This was both of our first times snorkeling which was pretty exciting. It was amazing to look underwater and see all the different fish, urchins, and corals.

Monday:

Our last day in Kauai 😦 But it was still a very awesome day because I rode a horse for the first time! We went to CJM Stables where we had the chance to hop on horses and see parts of Kauai some natives have never seen. I had a lovely and very hungry horse named Dutch.
We rode our horses all over the magnificent South Shore. We rode on the beach and past gorgeous valleys and saw amazing mountain ranges. It was definitely a perfect way to end our trip!
