Happy April! I know it seems like I may have abandoned my blog, but don’t worry I am here and doing my best to post blogs when I can!
Recently, I had an amazing meeting with Chardelle Moore, a talented multimedia journalist for Fox45! I spoke with her about getting into my the field and about my career aspiration of becoming a fashion correspondent!
This meeting made me feel so empowered because I know that I have the ability to achieve my dream goal and I have many events coming up that will be stepping stones towards my dream.
Today I also wanted to spotlight my new protective hairstyle. This hairstyle is simply 2 long braids.
The purpose of this look aside from making me look stylish is to give my real, natural hair a break from my hands being in it.
This style allows my hair to grow over the 2-3 week span I keep them in.
Happy Hump Day everyone!
Can you believe that we are almost halfway through October already? I feel like Christmas and 2017 will be here before we know it!
Today’s post will be in more of a lookbook style. I recently did a photoshoot which went well.
I wore a green floral crop top, neon pink joggers, and brownish-orange sandals. See photos from my shoot below!
Which picture is your favorite? Comment below! ❤
It’s been 2 years since I started Coral Buttons back in junior year of college!
I am happy with the direction in which my blog is going and it can only get better from here. This post will be a simple, fun one!
I will answer a few questions about myself/my blog and also post links to a few of my favorite blog posts over the past 2 years.
Well let’s begin!
How old are you?
I am 21 and turn 22 on November 18th ~ #scorpio
What’s your ultimate career goal?
To be a fashion reporter or on-air correspondent on ENews!
Who is your career role model?
Zuri Hall who is a young, beautiful and talented African American woman who is currently an ENews correspondent and has done so much already in just 28 years.
Favorite type of clothing and shoes?
Definitely dresses and I love flats. Flats include TOMs, Converses, ballerina flats, etc…I love them all!
Who is your fashion role model?
Stacy London because not only is she super stylish and has an excellent sense of fashion, but she uses her fashion skills to help other women on shows like “How Do I Look” and “Love, Lust or Run.” She teaches people how to dress and how to love themselves.
How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 2.5 years and I love it. March 2014 I big chopped and cut off all of my hair and have been growing it out bigger, healthier, and more beautiful ever since.
What did you study in college?
I studied Communication Arts and Theater & Drama and got my Bachelors degree last December.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging for a Online Journalism class in college and I picked fashion as my topic because that is what I love and the career path I plan on going into.
Why the name Coral Buttons for your blog?
I chose Coral Buttons really randomly actually. I was having a lot of trouble picking out a name so I googled things to help me. One source said combine 2 random things relating to your blog topic and make that your name. I went with coral since it is one of my favorite colors and buttons because they are simple and relate to clothes just the right amount. Hence, Coral Buttons was born!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself in Los Angeles, California with my now boyfriend, but future husband. I am working in the fashion industry either writing for a fashion magazine, reporting fashion or celebrity related news on a local news station, or fulfilling my ultimate career goal and corresponding on ENews!

The weekend that recently passed I was in a fashion show! I got to pick the theme and pull an outfit together to rock on the runway.
Since I love weddings, I decided to go with a bridal theme. I wore my old graduation dress from highschool, which is actually a real wedding dress!
I then accessorized the look with a veil and a fake flower bouquet. I wore black chunky heels and a beautiful pearl choker necklace.
I wore a little bit of makeup, which is new to me, but something super fun to dabble in every once in a while! I had on Covergirl BB Cream, rose blush, and bold red lipstick.
I decided to go with my fro out instead of puffballs. It’s a simpler look that I felt went well with my theme.
For the event, I had to perform a talent. I love acting and improv so I did a memorized version of Tyra Banks yelling at Tiffany Richards on the elimination episode of ANTM Cycle 4. It was a lot of fun!
I designed my own gloves from a t-shirt that was given to me by the fashion show coordinators. This show was partially for fun but also a big deal! (pardon the bad quality of the picture to the right, I was in motion!)
Based on my photoshoot, talent I performed and how I worked the runway, I have a chance to get a job in the modeling, film, and/or tv industry. The first place prize gets a year long contract which is an agreement to try and find a job for me in one of the industries mentioned above.
Professional agents will look over everything that was filmed (photos, talent, runway) and on September 10th I find out if I am the finalist for the prize. Wish me luck ❤
Yesterday morning I got to walk across the stage at Hood College!!
I finished school is December 2015, but yesterday I officially graduated and I couldn’t have been happier. The weather was sunny and breezy, all of my classmates looked great, we had an excellent speaker, and I got to visit Frederick and Hood College again!
I received my Bachelors of Arts in Communication Arts and my minor was Theatre & Drama. In the photos pictured throughout the post you will see me in my cap and gown, with my boyfriend and family, and in the dress I wore under the gown.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I plan on working hard to become a fashion reporter and so that’s why I decorated my cap to say “Future Fashion Reporter,” with gorgeous blue and white ribbon.
The dress I wore was red and had a fit and flare style. I paired my dress with black heels and of course all of my favorite pearl bracelets. I also wore black and gold earrings.
On my gown I had a Hood College pin, the white hood, and numerous colorful cords from all of the clubs I participated in.
The speaker, Wil Haygood, gave a lot of inspirational and motivational advice. My favorite line he gave was that “sometimes we have to go down in order to get back up.” He also talked about second chances and if things don’t work out the first time, continue pushing for it.
After graduation I got to spend time with my family and eat great food, it was an awesome day 🙂
Remember to always follow your dreams. No dream or goal is unattainable. I believe in you! ❤
I DID IT!!!
Hello lovelies ❤
I know it has been forever and a day since I’ve written on my baby Coral Buttons. A lot has taken place that caused my hiatus from blogging.
The biggest event being: I graduated college!!!…yay, finally!! So the past few weeks I worked extremely hard and tirelessly to finish my last semester of college strong.
Im glad to say that I am now a Hood College graduate with a Bachelors degree in Communication Arts and a minor in Theatre. I’m excited to walk the stage in May of 2016!
Aside from graduating college I have been applying to numerous, numerous jobs…as everyone knows is a lot of non-fun work. But the odd jobs I do now will help me get closer to my dream job of becoming a fashion media reporter.
Moving back home from dorm life for 3 1/2 years is an adventure all in itself. The move was successful but there is still a lot of unpacking to be done.
I am just trying to stay strong and positive with so many changes, transitions, and growth taking place in my life. 2016 will be a bigger and better year than 2015!
Enjoy your new year everyone and I hope you have a blessed 2016!
