Now for my outfit! I wore a white Misguided blazer dress which I adored.

The dress had gold buttons which popped against the crisp white dress. I paired this look with pearl bracelets and earrings, MAC lipstick, and my red Topshop mules.

My 2017 Hairstyles

2017 was definitely the year of change in numerous aspects of my life. One aspect in particular was my hair!

I tried sooo many unique and fun hairstyles this year. Below is a timeline of all of my 2017 hairstyles.

February – Bantu Knots

20170223_113055
This look made me feel powerful, bold, and more in tune with my african american culture.

March – 2 braids

I tried out a simple look that required little upkeep.

May – Shoulder length bob with bangs

My first wig ever!! I wanted a look I never had before and so I went for it and loved it. Everybody thought I straightened my real hair which meant the wig looked super realistic.

June – Side frohawk

Using bobby pins on my natural hair I pinned part of my hair down and let the other side go free!

July – 4 cornrows

I loved this look because it gave me a 90s Alicia Keys vibe.

September – Lemonade braids
Beyonce inspired braids slicked to one side. This look too a while to do but was definitely stunning.

October – Braided buns

This was the month I moved to LA so I wantrd something modern, trendy, and fun so I went with this Minnie Mouse-esque looked.

November – Flat twist out

For my birthday, I wore my natural hair and rocked my twist outs, which surprisingly turned out a lot better than I thought.

January 2018
….who knows what look will be next

I hope you all have a Happy New Year celebration. 2018 will be great!

First birthday living in Los Angeles!

My big goal for 2017 has finally been revealed on Coral Buttons…moving to Los Angeles!

20171118_111814(0)

Moving to LA has been the “big goal of 2017” I’ve hinted at on the blog many times before. I’ve been living in LA for almost a month now and I felt that my first birthday celebration here would be a great post to start my weekly posts again with.

I turned 23 yesterday and I went to the movies and out to eat with my boyfriend, Shawn then relaxed for the rest of the day. I wore a sparkly corset back dress with velvet teal (my fave color) heels!

20171118_112020

Yesterday, I also thought about all the goals and tasks I accomplished in just 23 years. Sometimes it is easy to get discouraged and compare yourself to others who may seem like they are doing better than you financially, career-wise, etc.

You have to take a step back and look at everything you’ve done and you will realize you are doing a better than you think.

20171118_150918

So thats what I did, so here is a top 5 list of accomplishments I should be proud to have achieved in 23 years:

1) Traveled to Kauai, Hawaii and Seoul, South Korea

2) Been in a happy and healthy relationship for almost 6 years

3) Graduated high school and college (a semester early)

4) Big chopped and now have healthy natural hair

5) Moved to Los Angeles of course!

Now it’s your turn! Take a look back over the years and write a list of what you are proud of yourself for achieving. This will boost your confidence and help you realize you are on the right track.

I’m already excited for my next birthday to see what I achieved in one year! Happy Sunday lovelies.

Kehlani SweetSexySavage Tour Concert & Outfit Details!!

If I could describe last night’s concert in one word it would be unforgettable.
20170711_21463120170711_21524420170711_215612
Kehlani is as beautiful on the inside as she is gorgeous on the outside. Her energy is so down to earth, relatable, and positive that you can’t help but be in a great mood at her concert.
She wore a sheer, white sweatshirt with the word “SPLASH” on it, black bra underneath, white cutoff shorts, nude tights, and black combat boots. Effortlessy stylish in my opinion.
I got to hear my favorite songs from her album sung live which blew me away. Her vocals were stunning.
20170711_21433420170711_21363320170711_224258
She gave advice on taking care of yourself, not having self-doubt, and giving to back to the community. The aura of a Kehlani concert is really something you can’t put into words.
And I was so close to the stage as well which made the experience feel even more real and personal. Big shoutout to my boyfriend Shawn for going with me, who said he also had a great time as well.

Outfit details:
Topshop Tokyo Romper- $45 from Nordstrom
Sandals- $15 from American Eagle
The romper was a perfect concert peice because it kept me cool and was easy to dance and jump around in.

If you never listened to Kehlani, give her new album a chance! And if you fall in love with her and her music as I have, be sure to see her in person because you wont regret it.

What Empowers You? Plus…New Style Alert!

Hello lovelies,

Happy April! I know it seems like I may have abandoned my blog, but don’t worry I am here and doing my best to post blogs when I can!

Recently, I had an amazing meeting with Chardelle Moore, a talented multimedia journalist for Fox45! I spoke with her about getting into my the field and about my career aspiration of becoming a fashion correspondent!

g

Chardelle Moore and I

This meeting made me feel so empowered because I know that I have the ability to achieve my dream goal and I have many events coming up that will be stepping stones towards my dream.

Today I also wanted to spotlight my new protective hairstyle. This hairstyle is simply 2 long braids.

2

The purpose of this look aside from making me look stylish is to give my real, natural hair a break from my hands being in it.

This style allows my hair to grow over the 2-3 week span I keep them in.

Not only is wearing them good for my hair, but also they empower me. These braids make me feel fierce and strong.

Having my hair pulled off of my face highlights my features more which is great! It also makes me feel in touch with my African American roots.
Find something that empowers you this week, something that makes you feel strong and fierce! It can be a book you read, a song, anything at all!
Leave a comment below stating whatever it is that empowers you. Enjoy your week!

2 Year Blogoversary!!

It’s been 2 years since I started Coral Buttons back in junior year of college!

I am happy with the direction in which my blog is going and it can only get better from here. This post will be a simple, fun one!

I will answer a few questions about myself/my blog and also post links to a few of my favorite blog posts over the past 2 years.

Well let’s begin!

How old are you?
I am 21 and turn 22 on November 18th ~ #scorpio

What’s your ultimate career goal?
To be a fashion reporter or on-air correspondent on ENews!

Who is your career role model?
Zuri Hall who is a young, beautiful and talented African American woman who is currently an ENews correspondent and has done so much already in just 28 years.

Favorite type of clothing and shoes?
Definitely dresses and I love flats. Flats include TOMs, Converses, ballerina flats, etc…I love them all!

Who is your fashion role model?
Stacy London because not only is she super stylish and has an excellent sense of fashion, but she uses her fashion skills to help other women on shows like “How Do I Look” and “Love, Lust or Run.” She teaches people how to dress and how to love themselves.

How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 2.5 years and I love it. March 2014 I big chopped and cut off all of my hair and have been growing it out bigger, healthier, and more beautiful ever since.

What did you study in college?
I studied Communication Arts and Theater & Drama and got my Bachelors degree last December.

Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging for a Online Journalism class in college and I picked fashion as my topic because that is what I love and the career path I plan on going into.

Why the name Coral Buttons for your blog?
I chose Coral Buttons really randomly actually. I was having a lot of trouble picking out a name so I googled things to help me. One source said combine 2 random things relating to your blog topic and make that your name. I went with coral since it is one of my favorite colors and buttons because they are simple and relate to clothes just the right amount. Hence, Coral Buttons was born!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself in Los Angeles, California with my now boyfriend, but future husband. I am working in the fashion industry either writing for a fashion magazine, reporting fashion or celebrity related news on a local news station, or fulfilling my ultimate career goal and corresponding on ENews!
